AP/IB Syllabus Information
Advanced Placement/ International Baccalaureate Courses The Advanced Placement Program is a program of credit by examination for college- level studies pursued in secondary schools. It is a national program administered by College Board in which policies are determined by representatives of member institutions, and its operational services are provided by Educational Testing Service. John F. Kennedy offers AP courses in a variety of subjects. These courses afford an opportunity for students of exceptional ability to receive college credit. The International Baccalaureate Program offers a Diploma Program for students in grades 11-12. The program is a rigorous pre-university course of study for the highly motivated academic student. Students fulfill requirements of various national education systems, which include original research, an extended essay, community services, and end of the course examinations. A Memorandum of Understanding must be signed in order to be enrolled in any AP or IB course. The expectation will be for the student to stay enrolled for the entire school year. The expectation is that the student will maintain at least a ìCî in an AP/ IB course. If the grade falls below the set expectations, the student may be removed from that course based on the discretion of the administration and teacher recommendation. Students, if removed, are only removed at the semester end. If feasible, the student will be placed into a college preparatory equivalent course of study. Students and parents are encouraged to review each course syllabus below to gain insight about the courses expectation.
